The City

Here is an image of the City State.  Please consider this more of the NASA artist's conception of the place than an actual map.  Some aspects may not be as actually exist.

As the City gears up for the festival the locals begin to see the all too familiar changes that accompany a festival:
  • People are friendlier, more generous and generally nicer
  • The talk on the street turns from who did who wrong and other gossip to who will be throwing the best parties and which bar has the best/strongest festival drink
  • The constables have put on a round up of thieves, beggars and homeless, but as the festival approaches the push is dying down
  • The streets are noticeably clearer of beggars, thieves, and homeless, and the public feels safer.  Those in the know, remember that this happens prior to every festival and the beggars and thieves will be back to work by mid festival, but even then the lowest of the social levels also seem to relish in the festival and are not as nearly as active as usual.
  • The biggest disruption to the peace will likely be the chariot race team hooligan fighting and being generally disruptive in the street.  These actions reach a peak on day 2 the day of the races.
  • attending the right party can raise your social status, but attending the wrong one can be a detriment to your standing
  • Some noble families are assigned boons and duties by the Overlord.  Again a well timed boon can advance a family's social standing, while those unprepared can be devastated by an onerous duty.
  • In general, the streets are electrified with anticipation.

Given that the festival starts in 2 days I figured this deserved a bump
