FtoMKC: An Alley in Salford (December 4, 1645)
« on: May 09, 2012, 02:01:16 PM »
Thomas heard the early morning sounds of a duel before he could see it. Still sleeping in the dark corner he had passed out in last night, he was hidden from view by the combatants. It seemed to go very quickly, with what appeared to be the King's men winning. One of the roundheads had fled, but the rest lay dead or dying out front of the tavern that he had spent most of last night in. Now they were standing and talking to each other.
"How do you hold on to an angel?"

"Hook em by the wing joint. You know where it jogs in there? Clip or a claw... a snare would do it."

Thomas squints in the morning light and rubs his eyes. Bloody Hell, what a way to wake up. He remains motionles, quietly taking in the scene before him and trying to retrace the steps leading to its consequence. He listens carefully as the men start to talk among themselves, but he stays where he is, protected by his shadowy refuge. Best remain the unwitnessed witness. He smiles to himself. Might yield a bit of profit somehow.

As the men leave, Thomas can hardly suppres a cry of disbelief. Didn't even care to search their pockets! Well, 'ere we go... Thomas rushes forward and quickly searches the pockets of the dead man, who appears to be wearing the finest clothing. He will take any findings and then proceed to follow the four other men, keeping a safe distance and trying to remain unnoticed.

Their clothes are workmanlike and on most of them very common material. The fat one has nicer clothes though stained, surprising for a roundhead. He digs through the fat one's purse and finds 8 copper pennies. His weapon appears in good condition. A man laying beside him clutching his stomach groans as he digs.

(I take it the fat man doesn't have any papers, documents or the like on him?)

Thomas looks the groaning man in eyes, smiles faintly and shrugs. He takes the 8 pennies and quickly puts them in his pocket. Better leave now, before anyone unpleasant shows up.

He leaves the weapon and the dying man in order to pursue the killers as previously described.

Two of them are engaged in loud conversation as they walk. Not really in a hurry or trying to hide. The large one doesn't speak much, and he constantly watches around him. There are a few times that Thomas thinks he may have been noticed. There is a younger man with them who doesn't really say anything to anyone and looks fairly shocked.

Thomas will keep following the men, putting a bit more distance between him and they, seeing they won't be hard to follow and being careful not to be potted by the large man.

They stop in front of what appears to be a rooming house, still in discussion about the French. The large man says something about fighting the war they have and then fall silent.

Thomas keeps observing them from a distance, trying to find a shadow to creep into.

He manages to stay out of view. They open the door to the house and begin to step inside.

Thomas will wait five minutes after the men have entered the house. Then he will enter himself, careful to let his eyes adjust to the low light before entering completely.

He opens the door and sees three of the men involved in the brawl sitting by the fire. The room is somewhat cozy and decently lit, it does not look like a bad place to stay.

(If it's okay with you, I'll move my postings to the other thread now as they will be relevant for the other characters present in the house.)
