Welcome to the Lair of Cthulhu
« on: January 16, 2005, 05:20:32 PM »
Ok,
this area of the forum will be devoted to System/Setting talk about the Call of Cthulhu, the marvelous game set in the roaring twenties and based on the story of Howar Phyllis Lovecraft.

About the rule: We will discuss mainly the different Chaosium editions ( know also as the D100) because they are the original mechanic of the game and captured best the feeling of HPL.
Nevertheless should any discussion arise regarding the D20 version it will surely welcomed.

About the setting: We will discuss the HPL pantheon and various monster, I'll try to give different insight about history and culture of the twenties. Any question that can help your campaing is welcomed.

About the stories: I'd like to make a list of the most influencing history by HPL and friend for getting right into the spirit.

OK we are set for the moment.
Ciao

I am a big fan of Call of Cthulhu.  My group used to play on a regular basis but now due geography we are unable to get to game anymore.

I have tried the modern Cthulhu and also The Red Mask but still prefer the twenties setting.

Hi thanks for your replies.
Due to an horrible disease contacted while reading a musty forbidden tome I've been away from the board, but now I'm back completely regenerated. So sorry for let you wait so long.
Yes we will try to cover all the different eras of the CoC (expecially Gaslight a favorite of mine). But we'll decide about the issues to be debated randomly.

Tomorrow I'll post a brief canon of the best stories of HPL just to give to the more inexperienced players a guide then I'll decide the first setting "thread".

Will there be an active game forthcoming perhaps?

I have definite withdrawals for a CoC campaign but we will need more to step up before we can fully expect a game of merit to emerge.    Granted, a handful of dedicated players along with a dedicated GM can pull it off it but it would be best to have a good pool.

This board is a good start...

I am very definitely up for playing in a COC game here... I was in an aborted game over in RPG.org (set in the American Civil War) and am currently in one on D&Dgamer.

I gathered as much, and I am liking it a lot! <grin> It is a different spin on things.

I was talking to Sorloc about finding a GM to run a CoC game here, and I said, "Gee, I should do it." He said, "You know, it is investigative horror. Can you do horror?"

I replied, "I live with two children. I can do horror."

However, I believe that I might be able to find somebdoy to run a game for us very very soon..... give me a couple of days....it won't be me, but I am pulling on a few resources that I have.

Good, it looks like the interest level is growing.  Another step would be to determine what time period holds the highest interest.  As I said before I love the roaring 20's but the Civil War time period definitely strikes an interest.

I like the 1930's. They have Nazi's. Nothing makes for a better villian than good old-fahioned Nazi's. And some relics.

Oh crap, I think Grinnen is right. I am already playing a CoC game right now!!!!

And I AM the Nazi!!!

LOL!

Well...that 1930's game seems like it might be a go-er then...

That 1930's RM game I planned on running will start probably in a few months..

(That MAY involve cultists, Nazi's and stuff....you'll just have to wait and see).

Oh..and Lady C, you may wear jackboots at home...but you don't in the sub game.. ;)

I'm Planning to run a Call of Cthulhu game myself. It doesn't have Nazis in it though.

The announcement is in the Recruitment-Others forum :-

Sweet.  not one, but two CoC games, each very different.  I'm looking forward to both of them.  I'm involved in a lot, and don't want to steal places from other potential players who aren't playing in anything, so I had better hang back until the game is about to begin.  I am interested in both games, though, and if they don't fill, I'll be happy to join!

Agreed. I am a big CoC fan but have been out of the loop for a while. Now days I only get to play in Cons when I am not running other games.

It has been years since I played the modern version and I have never played a futuristic version ...but then again the last Sci-fi game I played was Gamma World...oops did I just really date myself?

Just got through watching Indiana Jones again and feel the hunger pangs of a Nazi-filled CoC game.....

How about a game set during the second world war? I'd love to play a British spy in nazi occupied normandy.
