Hmm...

Guys I am going to place this on hold pending enough interest/completed characters/etc.

I realize people get busy with life and, if your situation has changed, please let me know and I'll go back to recruiting.

My apologies for this bump in the road and please let me know if I can help smooth it for you.

I just needed some help with my character creation. I was waiting for you to get this going again before I asked. I am still interested if/when you pick this game up.

I'm still keen. I've done the mechanics of my character, but still need to do background. That won't take long.

I'm still in for whenever this gets started. I'll have a few more limitations on my time in another month or so, but I doubt it will interfere with a pbp game.

OK, great.

We can get thsi together and go forward then, I think.

Sunday I will get back on and do a bit of prep and whatnot.

If you all could, please post questions, needs, etc ?  I can make sample templates, also - if needed.

I'll see about some more recruiting.

Great, do you need the character design spreadsheet or an overview of making a character?

You had suggested an assasin, is that still what you are interested in?

I have the sheets, but just help in a basic walkthrough so I don't create a silly character that will not make sense to the game. And yes, an assissan is still the preferred character.

The sheet you put there doesn't have weapon attack or parry. Do I just make it that way.

You need to specify a weapon that you have the skill in. Splitting attacking and parrying into two skills is an optional rule, which I guess Noir will be using? He'll have to confirm.

I didn't know we had do allocate points in a weapon to either attack and parry (and I have not done so in my character). Usually you can use the skill value you have in the weapon as your chance to parry if you forgo an attack. eg 40% skill in dagger gives you a 40% chance to parry an enemy's blow.

Can I take it we are using these optional rules? Even so under these rules it shouldn't make a difference for starting characters:

Quote from the option combat rules section (pg 199)

"In genres emphasizing hand-to-hand combat, such as fantasy,
you and the gamemaster may wish to have some variety
in weapon skills by not having the attack and parry
being the same skill rating. This is a relatively easy change
to make. For simplicity’s sake, it is recommended that
whatever skill points your character begins with in each
applicable weapon skill should be doubled, and the skill
rating applied equally to both attack and parry skills.
"

This just means that after initial character creation, with any experience, you can develop these skills at different rates.

Is this how we are doing things Mr Noir?

I also didn't split attack and parry on my character, since there had been no mention of it previously.

I didn't do it either on my sheet because of how you didn't do it. I did take two weapons though...

Hmmm...

Let's double the points to weapons and make one skill for attack and one for parry.

So one point spent on a weapon skill gives one percent to both attack and parry.

This could get silly for bows and shields, but I think it will be allright, and probably better long-term.

I don't have my rulebook with me, but bows and shield have special rules for attacking and parrying, so it's basically a non-issue.  I want to say that shields attack at 1/2 skill, and bows parry at 20% or half skill or some such.  I'll find it when I get home and update this thread.

Sorry guys, I'm going to back out of this.  Three months in and characters still aren't made, I don't think this is getting off the ground.
