« on: January 22, 2008, 11:56:58 AM »
Ok just been thinking about making a transformers campian and was thinking about the rules using arms law (the one with gunpowder weapons) and the si-fi resource book. Any tips?

Not to sure but I think it would be an interesting concept to say the least. I'll think a bit more on it; getting late so I'm almost ready for sleepies ;)

Use BattleTech; it would be much simpler. It already has rules for vehicles, mecha, aircraft, and tranformation between modes.

RM doesn't really work right for attacks and damage on these scales.

Unless you just called 20' robot baseline, with large and superlarge only applying to the like of Metroplex.

(In which case people in the scene are just scenery, to be squished or protected.)

Thanks raf, I was thinking on penilties for different sizes (the lager the greater the penilties like the time it takes for a transformation, unable to use certan skills, unable to use human weapons, maybe can only use what weapons they start off with.). How bout that Celedor the robots are fighting and the humans are in tanks and on computers and have the nulcear warhead :D

Problem is scaling the damage, to hurt both 50' robots and people. You can do one or the other fairly effectively.

When I think of giant robots and people in the same frame, two systems come to mind:

BattleTech w/ Mechwarrior.

or

Most flavors of Palladium, though Robotech would be primary there.

Though you could try and work the vehicle/starship rules from Spacemaster.

take some serious balls to mess with something that can turn you into a smear by accident.

Those are good ideas; I'd also suggest that Champions could get the job done pretty well, while also allowing for humans to play along.

Thanks, and maybe getting repaired would be a pain if there was no med former around or the pcs don't have the parts or something like that.

Actually, my wife and I created a Transformers campaign and used the Champions rules published by Hero Games.

We found that Battletech and Mechwarrior worked OK.  But, the Champions rules worked much better.

I can't even recall the vehicle rules for champions.

Or did you just build the mechs as characters, give em stacks of armor or damage reduction?

I can't even recall the vehicle rules for champions.

Or did you just build the mechs as characters, give em stacks of armor or damage reduction?

Vehicles (and all other gadgets) have powers just like anything and anyone else.
A Car will have Armor (Physical and Energy), Running (That's movement on the ground power), Density Increase (because it's big and heavy), and such.  A normal car would have an END(urance) reserve and all powers bought into a framework to simulate the limited fuel; an Autobot would not.

Once you get used to Champions terminology, it's simple.

So, the reason you can't remember the rules for vehicles is because they're the same as the rules for everything else.  They don't have a special set of rules just for them.
