Cast and Characters

Lohanu is about 3 years older than you, he was also a candidate, he made it to the final trials and bird riding. He was not in your group ever before you got to the last stage.

He fell off his gull during a landing about a month ago, and bashed his leg really badly. He cannot bend or twist it normally anymore, and has not been able to ride his gull longer than 20 minutes at a time since the accident. effectively grounded, he refused to go away, and the elders didn't insist. He took on most of the ground duties for the gulls, helping out feeding and grooming them, and checking out and repairing saddles and riding gear.

He was rather full of himself before the accident, and a damned good flier, but since them he's become a bit more friendly and if anything eager to please, if not a suck up. He's not the sharpest knife in the drawer, but he works steadily and gets things done. He seems to really love the gulls, and generally the birds only fully tolerate their own riders, him, and Tovanu.

He's a "townie" to you, family owns a decent piece of farming land on the east side of the main town. Some of the other riders look down on him as a failure, a couple avoid talking to him, but mostly everyone is fairly friendly with him.

Impulsive and quick to act or speak. His comments often spark trouble. He often gets himself into conflict with rules, but his decisive actions often resolve things well. Many expected him to fail out, but his capacity to seize the moment and suceed have served him amazingly well. Popular with whatever group he is with.

Townie.

One of the final 5 selected riders.

Monuau

Quiet and reserved, older than the rest of you at 22.

From the Bamboo forest on the north of the island, he is an apprentice shaman.

Has done well with all tests, though not spectacularly.

One of the final 5 selected fliers.

Woanu

At 16 he may not have his final growth. Barely over 5', he and Lohanu were the top two fliers in the group, until Lohanu's accident.

From the broken lands of the south end, he is also the most agile and able climber you've ever seen.

Steady, calculating and always looking at the angles before he approaches a climb, it's the same way he seems to approach life.

His temper is cool, but when he finally looses it, it can be spectacular.

He is one of the final 5 selected riders.

Bonavu

Another Townsman in the group, he seems not to take much seriously, but still gets his share of the work done.

Easygoing, he fits in well, his sense of humor often making unexpected friends.

Selected for the final 5 riders.

Tendu

18

Was the junior most Apprentice of Valasca when Emu was taken on, moving hum up to 2nd most junior. Took on a bit of a "I'm the boss of you attitude" at first, especially since he was tasked as Emu's partner for most basic training. Emu's steady failure to actually do any of the "Lesser" workings, combined with Emu's apparent talents for some of the mistress' more complex tasks further strained their relations.

The mistress was strict, so it never actually moved into overt conflict, but Tendu has always been handy with a snide comment, or to point out a mistake.

June 20/08: Operated the raft while Emu dove to collect the statues from the bottom of Kani Lake.
