In the cabin

The Aulorean nun, Breda, has gathered those passengers who would otherwise be in the way of the crew in the cabin. This includes her young niece Alba, Thuriel the Nordic wanderer and two elderly pedlars.

Breda does her best to comfort the people who are present by telling them of the heroic deeds of the patron saint of Selaset, Selas: "Selas was scouting the activities of the Khisian army from the nearby hill. When the risk of being discovered by the Khisian patrols grew too large, Selas discovered a hole under a boulder in which he could hide. But as he was wiggling down into the hole, the bottom suddenly gave way, and he fell down into a larger cave. When he awoke, everything was pitch black, so he sang and prayed to Aulor for help. After hours of praying, a bright ray of light suddenly shone down through the hole in the the ceiling of the cave, landing on a large, round, bright silver shield placed against the wall, and Selas heard a booming voice telling him that this was The Varner, and that it would protect him from his enemies."

Sensing that this does not calm the others, Breda leaves it at that. "So let us do like Selas did when he was in need of aid, and sing and pray to Aulor for his help. And as we are so close to his realm, I am confident that we will receive it." She flashes a reassuring smile and starts singing.

Thuriel joins in haltingly, he sings only some words, his attention elsewhere. "Words do not defend when swords are your opponents" he thinks. Though he tries to focus on the words of teachings that he aspires to his attention is broken by the thought of fighting abck against pirates with only faith as his sword...

Thuriel stands and walks to the door. "I cannot stay idle" he says "I'll go and check whats happening and come back shortly."

With that he exits the cabin and makes his way up to the deck.
