An entire topic just for OOC discussions! :)
//K
-
As you have probably all noticed, I've started the first part of this adventure, but please don't post there yet! I'll let you all know as soon all the characters are ready - they will hopefully be that by Monday...
//K
-
Monday? The one next week? lol
-
I'm very happy that the game has started, and I'm looking forward to seeing how it evolves! :)
I'd like to continue with the status messages here, so here's the current status:- Cel - Kerr, a wanderer - character active
- Grinnen Baeritt - Lavi, a Nordic hunter - character active
- salun - Johann, a Mekian sailor - character not yet active
- Chifo - Thuriel, a Nordic warrior - character not yet active
Those of you who have not yet posted in the game topic, please do so asap, even if your character sheets are not completely finished. I'll finish them off this week, and I'm quite certain that they will not be necessary before that.
In this week I'd also like to settle the personal goals for your characters. For some characters, this will be easy, the rest of you can put your thinking caps on...
-
Posted now for you.
Thanks.

Status message of the week...
The game has started, and I think it's going really well - nobody's been killed yet! ;)
No, I really think it's going well, all four players have taken part in the game, and I think it's time for me to move the game forward...
There's a thing I'd like to discuss with you, though. I've been thinking of really utilizing the fact that this game is run on a message board by having "scenes" or encounters where only one or two players participate in a separate topic. Once these players have "finished off their business", I'll include a summary of it in my next game posting if it's relevant... An example of what could be handled in this way could be Lavi's and Thuriel's meeting on the deck... What do you think?
Oh, and I'm sorry I've forgotten to send updated character sheets out, especially since I promissed to do it last week... :(
//K
-
Go for it. It's always nice to get a recap from the Gm's point of view that way. Take your time with the sheets!
-
I'd really like to see it move somewhere. Chatting to each other is nice and all, but ut gets old really fast. ;)
-
Kalu: as you wish, a seperate thread would be fine...just let us know when its going to happen...
As for the character sheet...I'm not fussy if I even get one.. :D (playing is good enough for me..)
-
Before catching up, I'd like to apologize that this status message is a day late, and more so that I haven't been particularly active in the game this past week. I've been busy with work as we have a delivery at the end of this week... But so as not to leave the game in a state of limbo until that time, I'll take a different approach to the next post than I intended to: instead of posting a long post that covers everything, I'll create a couple of suitable sub-forums for those of you who are not directly part of the main story line. As these topics will most likely contain a large amount setting-specific information, I encourage everyone to read them, even if they're only about other characters. This way I will not keep all of you waiting, I hope... :)
Now for the status... Although progress is slow (my fault), the game is moving along in the right direction. My current concerns are (apart from keeping the speed up at all) how to make my posts interesting and informative without making them stale and repetitive. Practice makes perfect, I hope... ;)
So for the coming week I hope to be able to accomplish the following:- Create new sub-forums for Kerr (below deck) and for Thuriel (in the cabin)
- Move the main story along
That will leave the following for the next couple of weeks:- Finish character sheets and distribute them
- Agree with each player on the personal goals of his character
//K
-
Good man, no rush though if it means your happy in getting the way you want.
-
So, after two weeks of near absence, I'm back to resume this game. I'm sorry it had to be this way, but that's the way life sometimes is...
As you may notice, I've asked for dice rolls for the first time in the main topic. I'd like to keep these in this OOC topic, so as not to clutter that topic with stuff that is only relevant to the game and not to the story. I'm still a bit unsure about how I want to handle dice rolling in the future, but this time I'll just see what works and what doesn't and then adjust as we go along. For now, dice rolls are not that important: they're only used to help me move the story along in accordance with the abilities of your characters... Comments are welcome! :)
Tasks for the coming weeks:- Make sure that all players are still active!
- Character sheets...
- Personal goals...
30516]OC: It would help if something was actaully going on. We're just roaming around the ship.. :S
:huh: In case you didn't notice, things are actually starting to happen. I can't really see that I'm responsible for your character's actions, i.e., leaving the location where the action is in fact taking place. What else do you expect?
//K
P.S. I'm also unsure about how dice are to be rolled at all, but I'll figure out something... B)

In that case I'd suggest that you make all of the rolling, and then tell how much the roll is in brackets after the action, or some such...
-
So I've been slow again... But the reason for that is that I've been thinking about how to make the story more interesting, and now I've made up my mind. I think I've also learned that this kind of role playing that's going on now works much better IRL (and in my native language where I can express myself a bit better ;)), so I'll try to cut down on that in the future and get to the points where the players take the decisions.
Because of the holidays I expect low activity here until Tuesday. I will, however, move the story lines that I can forward, now that I'm better prepared...
Tasks for the coming weeks:- Character sheets...
- Personal goals...
- Even more preparation...
Have a happy Easter!

Lavi: Result of Observation roll: 90 + Observation skill ?.
From the purposes of my intended actions I'm quite happy for you to do all the rolling...or ask us to make a whole bunch of rolls then use them at your leisure for whatever you desire. (Perhaps do a refresh at the start of each combat...after we have made our intentions clear...).
As for your narrative it's fine. Being English..I SHOULD be able to express myself well...but frequently don't. :rolleyes:
-
You hit my idea of the die-rolling right on the head (stop hitting my ideas' heads ;) ) - exactly the way I meant for it... :)
Anyway - observation roll: 76+28 = 104 (huh? what was that? )
Note to self: d10 is NOT! the same as d100!!
And here I had just started ranting about something with changing my dice on low rolls (rolled a 6 on the d10 :P ), but that is perfectly irrelevant now...
I'll go test the dice rolle for a bit more... :)
-
31774]or ask us to make a whole bunch of rolls then use them at your leisure for whatever you desire
A good idea. That would speed up things... I'd like ten rolls of D100 from each player - and if the last roll could go open ended (results of 01-05 or 96-100), I'd like an extra roll.
31774]As for your narrative it's fine.
Thanks. I think I may just be asking a bit too much of myself. I want to use the words that exactly describe the situations - use the richness of the language to express my thoughts. I guess I just want to be able to write like Tad Williams! ;)

to clean it up a bit: 23 - 06 - 10 - 72 - 57 - 100 - 16 - 92 - 97 - 19
strange... only ranging in the ends I'd call good'ish or bad'ish - except that 57... but they'll propably bring great fun all the same :)

32292](OOC: How far, in days travel would it be to get to where we are going by boat...and is it practical to do so by foot...?)
It should take about three more days of sailing to Selaset. There really is no alternative, as you need to cross the Bird Fell Strait to get to the region Perikal which is where Selaset is located...
32487](OOC: Do I know of a nearby port that would gain an advantage by doing this?)
This is the first time Lavi is this far South, so the only nearby ports that he knows of are Tartasborg and Selaset...

I've been holding the game back a bit - as if you can't tell - as I've been quite busy at work. Luckily, things should get back to normal again now, and I'll proceed as soon as possible. Now that Chifo is back, though, I'll just give him a chance to catch up...
Chifo - great to have you back. I'm a bit uncertain about where to place your character's reappearance on the deck timewise, but I think it's best if he just falls in with what else is going on: the ship is in the port and Lavi and Johann have left to talk to Callan the harbormaster.
Things, I've realized I can do better: 1) announce absence because of work in advance, 2) lock topics while they are not in use.
//K
-
No probs. Thanks for still waiting when I was rushed back into Hospital I didn't get a chance to tell anyone and they wouldn't let me near anything that involved moving my back.
Just write me back into the thread at an opportune time and I'll pick it up when your ready.
Thanks.
-
Of course if he hurried he could catch us up in the waiting room... ;)
-
Current status is that I'm fiddling with the details of my update... Being a perfectionist is hard work... ;)
Expect the update within the next 24 hours.

A summary post of all dice roll results, so that everyone can see when it's about time to roll a new set... I'll strike out results as they are used.
Lavi
52 - 96 - 39 - 69 - 60 - 63 - 79 - 86 - 25 - 25 - 67
Johann
23 - 06 - 10 - 72 - 57 - 100 - 16 - 92 - 97 - 19
Atani
90 - 5 - 65 - 12 - 15 - 5 - 46 - 37 - 43 - 32 - 97 - 4 - 51
//K
-
I'd like a load of dice roll results from Wolfcoat and Atani. At least ten results, and the last one must not trigger an open-ended roll...
Status on the new characters is that Wolfcoat's character is created except for the last finishing touches, and Atani's character is so well fleshed out that it should be easy to create (I've even started planning his intro-PM)... I expect to have the new characters ready to join the group within the next few days.
//K
-
It seems to me that the encounter with Lokmar has ended... Unless any of the characters currently present (Lavi and Johann) would like to do something special in the evening/night, I'd like to just skip ahead to next morning, and thereby introduce Wolfcoat's character.
//K
-
Yes, by all means, lets get Wolfcoat on board as soon as possible ! :)
-
Sure thing :)
Play like you've got a pair!
Ermmm... whoops... I'm playing to much Warmachine atm :P
-
Well, Wolfcoat hasn't been here for almost two weeks and hasn't replied to my PM, so I'll name and start his character without him. If/when he returns, he can take over - that allows us to move on quickly.
By the way, summer vacations are coming up, so if any of you have anything planned, please let me know... My vacation will be from the 15th of July to the 6th of August, but I don't expect to be offline for more than a few days at a time.
//K
-
In each backpacks there is some food (bread, cheese, dried fish, and a full waterskin), a heavy, woolen hooded cloak with leather reinforced shoulders, and 50' of good rope with a light grappling hook fixed at one end. Lavi's pack also contains some herbs ([Lavi] > Flora Lore, O: 23 - 20 (used instead of Herb Lore) + 63 = 66): five different kinds of plants - two plant stems, two small bunches of some grass, two nuts, four leaves, and finally four leaves that seem familiar (they seem like the ones that the hunters back at home often carried with them). And there's a small roll of clean cloth that can be used for bandages and for keeping the herbs in place.
For Lavi there's also the requested quiver with arrows.
-
Atani's character is almost ready. Hopefully I can send it tomorrow - if I get a mail address... ;) The character will join the group within the next few days.
//K
-
Sorry about my current absence. I'm terribly busy both at work and at home, but I hope that everything calms down by next weekend...
//K
-
*GAAH* My C drive has crashed, and I'm extremely busy at work... But after this week, I'll be working from some military base down in southern Germany for two weeks, and from what I've heard, that should leave me with plenty of time for the game.
In other words, an update is in the brewing for today...
//K
-
Just a quick clarification while I'm preparing the next part of the story: I had the impression that the flag had been taken down by Johann, based on post 132 - though I can see that this act was never stated directly... The flag itself doesn't play a role in this story, so unless anyone objects, I suggest that we all share the assumption that it has been taken down (in which case Grinnen Baerit might want to modify his latest post a bit). On the other hand, if anyone wants to role play the taking down of the flag, that can be done too...
//K
-
With the ensuing clean-up, I'd like to see how many players I can count on in this game, and if they want it to continue. Posting has been really slow lately (mainly my fault), but I'd like to keep the game running. If the rest of you also want that, I'll start a search for new players, and I'll move the story forward to a point where they can join the game as quickly as possible. Also, if you want the game to continue, I'd like to know what kind you situations or action you would like to see in the future, so that I can try to adjust the game to that...
//K
-
I'm still here. Though my posting is somewhat sporadic of late due to internet problems.
I'm happy for new people to join and would like to see the game continue.
My only concern is that the current story-line seems to indicate investigating a cult which is both more powerful and outnumbers the number of players.
Devotion to a cause and bravery aside, best left to others.
-
My only concern is that the current story-line seems to indicate investigating a cult which is both more powerful and outnumbers the number of players.
I have no intention of having the investigation of this cult become a story-line now or in the near future. I just want to introduce it early and show you what they are capable of doing - that may help drive the story along later...
I'm wondering if I should tell you more about my ideas for story development. That would have the game take a collaborative story-telling approach where the GMs and players work more together to tell a great story instead of having the GM challenging the players with unexpected situations. But I need to have all players agree that this is how we do it, if we are to switch. What do you prefer?
//K
-
I'm happy the way it is, the post rate (of all concerned) is a little slow...but from the perspective of a PBP game...it really shouldn't matter if everybodies got patience.
-
Hmm... no response from Atani or Salun...?! :-\
//K
-
For the life of me I can't get any email notifications of posts. Sorry for any delays in the game coming from me - I've been really busy lately and not logging in very frequently at all.
I'm happy with the way we're going about the story line. As you say, the post rate is a bit slow (for my part of that, I apologize) but it is moving forward in fits and starts. I did also have the impression that the story line was heading toward investigation or confrontation with the cultists which seemed like a losing proposition for the players :) Anyway, until I can figure out why I'm not getting email notifications I'll make a point of logging in more frequently.
-
I'm a bit hung up during this and the following week: I'm working in a military base about 900km from home, modelling a database in cooperation with representatives from about 20 other nations. I'll see what I can do for the game in the evenings, but the hotel has no internet access...
//K
-
Work is extremely busy today and tomorrow, so nothing from me before Friday, which I have taken as vacation. :)
//K
-
Just checking in. I'm still here and willing to play. Let me know when you're ready to introduce new characters.
-
*heh* Plans change quickly in my part of the world. The test that I was supposed to participate in got cancelled, so I hope to be able to progress this game so far that new characters can join either right after Christmas or a few days into the new year - depending on your vacation plans...
//K
-
Hi it has just occured to me that I havent got a copy of Lavi any more... had it as a PM but the crash/change over must of wiped it, any chance of a copy?
-
I'll send it to you. Is your mail address the same as it has always been?
//K
-
Yep.
-
Got it thanks.. thought I had herb lore. Must remember to take it for next level. ;)
-
As you can probably tell, Usdrothek has joined us as the player of the character Toke.
I expect to have one more player join the game during the coming week - in spite of a deadline at work...!!
//K
-
Hi everyone!
I'm looking forward to playing with you all.
-
Welcome! Nice to have you aboard! :lol:
-
Hey there, welcome aboard!
-
Does Toke know if Vuttish longships have small launch boats like the one we are all in at the moment?
-
They don't - they're like viking longboats... But Toke has heard of Hrothgar... ;)
//K

From the Taras overview: Races
http://www.rpgrm.com/rmsmf/index.php?topic=212.0
Kilpa are carnivorous humanoid creatures - aquatic elves gone really bad - who live in the waters around the continent. Here they raid the villages and ships when they can't find enough fish to eat.
-
This week's new player is Tancred, playing the character Ottar. Ottar is part of an odd pair: he is a big, strong-looking, red haired Nord who is accompanying an older man with foreign looks and a strange accent.
-
Welcome Tancred!
-
Thanks Usdrothek, good to be aboard.
-
GB, the tow rope was dropped when you left to investigate the longboat:
Then the boat returns to the cog, the rope between them is untied, and a couple of the sailors currently in the boat are replaced with stronger men bearing arms.
//K
-
Ok. Sorry. :rolleyes:
-
I'm experimenting a bit with the features made available when playing in this way, and have just sent a PM with additional information gained from an Observation roll. This way I leave it to you to have your charaters react to that in a way you find suitable. If you don't like this approach, please let me know, and I'll abandon it. :yes:
//K
-
I do like the PM for information only a single character knows. Keep it up!
-
I agree with Usdrothek.
-
Ditto. However, I'd suggest occasionally adding a slight variation since it is often not that hard to notice that someone has noticed something when someone else has noticed something odd... even though they haven't noticed it themselves.
(now I'm confused!)
What I'm trying to sa is that the narrative should sometimes give a clue that this is the case. "Like Lavi frowns and looks concerned"
-
It's good to see things are picking up here after a bit of a lull.
I wasn't sure if Ottar was going to be introduced.
-
I'd suggest occasionally adding a slight variation [...] the narrative should sometimes give a clue that this is the case. "Like Lavi frowns and looks concerned"
Taken ad notam. When the frequency of "PM results" increases to "occasionally", I will do something like that... ;)
